The Recipe 2027

2027 · Level 2

TheRecipe

Mix it. Move it. Own it.

Year 3 to Year 6  ·  Tryouts Friday 13 November  ·  Base 181 students

The game-changing years.

Year 3 to 6 is where things start to shift.

This is the level-up.

Training becomes more intentional. Expectations get higher. Dancers start building the layers that turn potential into real skill — technique, performance, versatility, teamwork and consistency.

They’re old enough to take their training seriously. And so do we.

The Recipe is where dancers are challenged to step up, work as a team and start understanding what it means to train and perform at a higher level.

More training. More opportunities. More expected of them.

Because these are the years that can change the game.

Here’s what goes into every Recipe dancer.

Who can try out?

Year 3 to Year 6 dancers who are existing Base 181 students. Entry is by tryout or invitation. We look for dancers and families with the dedication, attitude and skills to commit to high-level weekly training and share our studio values.

What are the additional extras?

We like to keep things super transparent. Your 4 classes per week and your Base 181 uniform are included in your membership.

Additional extras may include:

  • 2027 team costume
  • 2027 team uniform
  • Team bonding days, which we like to host at least once a year
  • Competition fees, if we enter one
  • Extra rehearsals, if needed
How do we stay updated?

Everything happens in the Band app (the green tile with the B). You'll be invited to the private Year 3–6 Rep Team group.

Key notices are pinned at the top, and every performance is in the Events tab. Please turn notifications on, as performance details aren't sent by email.

Why do RSVPs matter?

Every dancer has a set spot in the formation, so we plan each routine from the RSVP list. A dancer can't slot in at the last minute without changing it for everyone.

Please RSVP in Band before each event's deadline. Without an RSVP, your dancer won't be able to perform that day.

How much notice for performances?

As much as we can. Entertainment moves fast, so some great opportunities only come up a week or so out. We'd rather say yes to those for the kids, and we really appreciate your flexibility.

What happens on performance day?
  • Wear: the Year 3–6 rep team top and shorts, unless Band says otherwise.
  • Shoes: Nike Air Force 1s in all white, with no coloured details.
  • Meet: by the stage, unless Band gives another spot.
  • Parking: events get busy, so leave plenty of time.
Does the team do competitions?

It's not something we focus on. We're all about nurturing performance skills, not competition skills, and developing artists with real skills for the stage.

Competitions are about getting choreography tight through a lot of repetition of the same routine, and we don't feel that nurtures the best talent. That said, if a competition comes up that we feel will develop our dancers, we'll 100% do it.

What if we miss a class?

Weekly training and performances are a must, so we ask dancers to miss class only when they're unwell. If a holiday clashes with a performance, let us know at the start of the year so we can plan around it.

Can we join more than one team?

Yes, across Base 181 teams such as The Artist Lab and Floor Messiahz. Each one offers something different, so chat with us about what suits your dancer. Rep dancers can't be on another studio's team, just like playing for one club in sport.

What now?

Your spot's
cooking.
